Construction for the 443-space Park and Ride (PNR)/Bus Station facility to be built in the northwest quadrant of the Exit 5 interchange in Londonderry on Route 28 was awarded to R. S. Audley, Inc. of Bow, NH on October 11th. The PNR facility includes a westbound, slip-ramp ingress from Route 28, with egress via a loop road (on-site) and Symmes Drive. The loop road will also provide egress for Waste Management Property vehicles to the Route 28 signals via Symmes Drive.
This construction project involves not only the PNR, but includes the full reconstruction of approximately 2500 linear feet of Rockingham Road (NH 28) from the Perkins Road intersection westerly to a point approximately 400 feet west of the Enterprise Drive intersection. Minor widening of Route 28 from the limits of the full reconstruction, easterly through the Exit 5 interchange area and extending to just east of the NB ramps intersection, will also be constructed.
Two-way traffic will be maintained on Route 28, and the construction will occur in primarily two phases. Short term lane closures may be necessary to allow certain portions of the proposed work.
Completion of this construction project is estimated by June, 2008.
Future plans for this area include construction of a bus maintenance facility to be located adjacent to the PNR to support the implementation of expanded bus service along the I-93 corridor.
