The contract for replacement of the Cross Street Bridge over I-93, with related improvements to the roadway approaches, was awarded to R.S. Audley, Inc. of Bow, NH in November 2006. Construction activities began mid-winter, 2006/2007. As the 2007 construction season comes to a close, the project will be approximately 50% complete.
The proposed replacement bridge will be 420 feet long and located approximately 80 feet north of the existing bridge. Upon completion of the proposed bridge and roadway approaches, the existing bridge will be removed. The project will require the relocation of some utilities, most notably the reconstruction of 770 feet of waterline which will be directionally bored under existing I-93 to the north of the existing and proposed bridges.
Traffic impacts along Cross Street and I-93 are anticipated to be rather minimal. Alternating one-way traffic patterns will be used along Cross Street to allow for construction of the roadway approaches, and existing lanes of traffic will be maintained along I-93 with the exception of minor lane closures and/or traffic shutdowns as necessary to allow for the erection of steel girders for the new bridge and old bridge removal operations.
Completion of this construction project is estimated by July, 2008.
